City Planning for a changing India

India's 7936 cities and towns with 377 million urban population provide 60% of the GDP and 70% of the Jobs. However, the state of their infrastructure services, housing, transport and environment is awfully poor impeding sustain ability, equity and economy. To meet the urban challenges and to attract investments, the Government of India has initiated the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Smart City Mission and more. These missions can be torch bearers of India's urban provided the local authorities adopt new ways of urban planning and development.
